South Park Resident Helps Kids Through ARTSPosted on: 2010-06-09Jill Hammons, who moved to way-cool South Park from University City last September, is a founding member and co-chair of an amazing organization: ARTS, A Reason to Survive. ARTS is dedicated to healing, inspiring and empowering children facing life challenges by providing innovative arts-based programs, education and employment opportunities.
Founded in 2001 and now in Liberty Station in Point Loma, ARTS has transformed the lives of tens of thousands of children.
ARTS believes:
Through art expression kids are able to process their feelings, accept and heal
The artistic and creative process is therapeutic in itself
Arts allow kids to express themselves in positive ways
Arts allow kids the opportunity to build a positive relationship and trust with an adult

The annual fundraiser celebrates the accomplishments of the organization and the award recipients. It will be a fun night of dancing, great food, wine and a silent auction to support the work of the Greater Golden Hill CDC. The 2010 Awards Program includes: Renewal through Preservation, Building Community through Service and Local Business of the Year.
