To celebrate the showing, AN ARTIST'S RECEPTION will be held on FEB. 14TH from 2 TO 5 PM.
About John Brodie’s Work:
The work in John Brodie's current exhibition is a reflection of the various types of work he has been creating during the past 10 years; representational and nonrepresentational, figurative and nonfigurative. The representational elements, fabulous beasts and plant images, human forms, are intertwined with nonrepresentational color and drawing and motion. In many instances the images are literally created with combined parts of various earlier works pieced and rearranged and reconnected with staples and in some instances tape. The work continues to be painted with acrylic on clear polyester and hung with grommets and push pins.
The imagery is taken from a small 'alphabet' of images that has always been common to his work. Male and female figures, plants, inhabitants of Medieval bestiaries, all roam freely in space. The space is often flat with little perspective and sometimes actual; insets and holes in the surface. The final effect is one of movement and flow. A world of infinite change and possibility.
About the Gallery:
The Next Door Gallery, adjacent to Studio Maureen, is located in historic South Park Golden Hill at 2963 Beech Street, San Diego. It is the perfect place to check out the work of many local artists, as well as see and purchase from a unique collection of handmade jewelry and greeting cards, gifts, used art books, artist trading cards and more. The Next Door Gallery and Studio Maureen are open from noon to 5pm, Wednesday through Sunday.
